Ultraman Athlete Rich Roll: Vegan Endurance Athlete has been named one of Men’s Fitness Magazine’s “25 Fittest Guys in the World” for 2009, Rich Roll is an ultra-distance endurance runner, swimmer, and cyclist—and a vegan. Rich credits his top physical form to his plant-based diet, which gives him strength and stamina and allows him to recover quickly after running more than 40 miles in a workout!

When Rich turned 40, he was out of shape and overweight. Compelled to make a change, Rich went vegan and immediately began to feel better and have more energy. This renewed sense of health inspired him to compete in an Ironman competition. But because all those races were booked, he decided to go for the Ultraman, a double Ironman consisting of a 6.2-mile swim, a 261.4-mile bike ride, and a 52.4-mile run.

Rich knows—and proves—that a vegan lifestyle is good for your health, the environment, and animals. PETA’s own vegan athlete and first-time triathlon-trainee Lisa Lange interviews Rich to get the scoop on being a fierce physical competitor, and he shares training tips for athletes at any level.
